Under Dr. Barrett’s leadership, the Bariatric program at UMC has grown, with active support groups and guidance that does not end with surgery. Our focus on Bariatric Surgery is individualized, supportive, and patient focused. Early surgical recovery programs have revolutionized the way patients experience and recover from this major surgery, with most patients able to return home after one night stay and able to walk in the halls a few hours after their operation. This has allowed patients to return to their daily lives sooner with less pain, sometimes returning to work a week later.

Our weight loss program is accredited by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program. Accreditation ensures that Bariatric patients receive more than just a surgical procedure. We offer personalized care to help you through all the phases of your weight loss journey.

Bariatric surgery involves working on the stomach and intestines to help overweight people achieve the weight loss they’ve been struggling with through traditional methods. We can sit down with you one-on-one prior to this surgery to talk about your ideal weight, and the changes in lifestyle that would occur after such a procedure to ensure that you are well-informed before we proceed.
