Dr. Barrett loves cutting and operating through little tiny holes. “I could cut and sew all day,” Dr. Barrett says.

Although she resisted the pressure from surgical mentors, including leaders in the field of laparoscopy, Dr. Barrett only pursued advanced laparoscopic surgery in favor of starting a community general surgical practice. Dr. Barrett performs laparoscopic surgical procedures even beyond bariatric surgery.

“It is so rewarding to perform laparoscopic colon or hernia surgery and have patients back to their lives in a week. In the past, patients undergoing colon surgery might be in the hospital still after a week.”
